The Chaos Computer Club Regensburg sees itself as an intergalactic
group of lifeforms, independent of age, gender, social background or
hierarchy. We campaign for information freedom on a global scale, do
research on the impact of technology on society and individuals and
spread knowledge about these new developments.

The CCC regards lawsuits filed by the German section of the IFPI as
highly questionable, to say the least. We just won't accept the music
industry trying to accomplish their goals by striking ordinary users
with awe as the industry claims immense amounts for indemnification.
Such claims are not even enforcable by law in Germany. The IFPI's
intentions are rather to intimidate participants of filesharing
services. This becomes clear with the recent campaign of the GVU
(Society for the Prosecution of Copyright Infringements). Here, too,
legal misinformation is spread concerning the culpability of copyright
infringements, to shy away users from using p2p-services.

Next to the political reasons for boycotting the music industry, there
are a couple of pragmatical reasons for not buying CDs:

The music industry uses part of their CD sales profits to finance
lawsuits against filesharers. Why should we pay for their ammunition?

The profits from CD sales finance the music industry's research and the
implementation of CD copy protection. Why should we pay for technology
that prevents us to rightfully copy our CDs?

We have bought our right to privately copy our music CDs by paying GEMA
(GEMA is the German "Gesellschaft für musikalische Aufführungs- und
mechanische Vervielfältigungsrechte" or society for musical performing
and mechanical reproduction rights) dues on CD burners and blank CDs.
It is outrageous to claim this paid-for right as 'theft'.

All of those reasons drove us to show people legal music alternatives
licenced under Creative Commons - we will produce a free (as in free
beer *and* free speech) music CD with an accompanying flyer that will
be distributed.
